Older Child Movement

Moving or exercise has many healthy benefits at every age. "Movement" plays an important role in regulating the hormones involved with bone development, growth, brain function and the growth and function of all of our organs and muscles. It is never too early or too late to get moving! It is also important for children to see and participate with their parents having fun (not just on vacation).

At this age, children better understand taking turns and choosing teams. This is a good time to gather the neighbors for a fun game of kickball, dodgeball (children love getting their parents "out"), badminton or the like. Green light, red light is fun and helps children learn to listen carefully and focus. It also helps sharpen the connections between thought and actions. Simon Says is another game that helps to sharpen these skills.
