Head Injuries in Infants and Toddlers

Head injuries in children younger than two years old are very difficult to assess because they may have significant injury, but no symptoms. Any infant 3 months of age or younger should be seen and evaluated after a "significant" head injury. If your young child is over 3 months of age and sustains what appears to be a minor head injury and following the injury has no loss of consciousness, seizure activity, vomiting, headache or bruising on the scalp or other apparent injury, it is likely okay to observe your child at home. If your are not certain or your child has or develops any of these symptoms or has a more significant injury, you should call the office or answering service or seek medical advice/care right away.
