Outdoor Theater and Movie Screenings

Summer bring about the opportunity for a very fun and unique movie and theater viewing experience!


Outdoor movies have become very popular recently and one of the best parts is they are free! They are also happening all around the DC. You can find a comprehensive list of locations here, but below are some of the highlights:

-The longest running series is Screen on the Green on the National Mall. Movies start at sunset and play in all but extreme weather, there are no rain days.

-NoMa Summer Screen's theme this year is "Dance, dance, dance". Movies play every weekend through August.

-Union Market is hosting a Drive-In and it's theme is movies of the 80s and 90s. Enjoy these classic from the comfort of your car!

The stage goes outdoors in the summer!

From June through early August, Wolf Trap hosts Children's Theatre in the Woods! Performances are at 10AM Tuesdays through Saturdays. All performances are recommended for Kindergarten to 6th grade.

You can also check out the Strathmore's Backyard Theater for Children! Performances are every Thursday at 9:30AM and 11:30AM from July 9-30th. Admission is $8, but free for ages 2 and under. Free parking is available on a space basis, bag lunches are allowed, and performances will be moved inside if the weather require but mostly take place under a large tent.

The Puppet Company at Glen Echo Park will be performing "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves" this summer! Performances are Thursdays-Saturdays beginning June 25th and ending August 9th. Tickets are $10, free if under 2 years old.
